Roughly speaking, due to its density and viscosity, heavy oil will heat up in half the time of water, or if you prefer, require around half the heating power to heat up the same volume as water in the same period of time. However this will require a much lower watt density than on a water heater. For more specific information on oil, or heat up calculations for any other of a very long list of chemicals, please call Jamie on 01827 215684.
When you know how much power you require, your next decision is whether to apply direct heat via a heating element 250w – 6kW
perhaps a screwed immersion heater 1kW – 24kW
and for greater than 24kW, a flanged immersion heater
possibly even a vat heater (2-18kW) because you wish to access from the top of the tank.
